Hosted by Young Professional members Megan Harkins and Jennifer McMurray, guest speakers included: Andrea Wickham Moriarty, Vice Consul General of Ireland in Scotland; Jennifer Treacy, Chairperson of Scotland GAA; Causeway member Jude McCorry, CEO of the cyber and Fraud Centre Scotland; and Dr Tanya Muclachy, Director of Health Innovation Hub Ireland.

Empowering & Supporting Future Generations of Women Leaders

Ahead of International Women’s Day 2022, Causeway: Ireland Scotland Business Exchange held an uplifting interactive online networking event on the theme of empowering and supporting women into leadership in business.
This online networking session was hosted by our Young Professionals’ Committee and included guest talks from: Saffron Grant (Digital Construction Skills); Chupi Sweetman (Chupi); Penny Morton (Koolmill Systems Ltd) and Sarah-Lyn McKenna (LIFT Ireland). The panel of guest speakers shared personal insights from their career journeys and all attendees discussed the theme of tackling gender bias in business and how to reduce the gender gap in leadership.

Countdown to COP26: Growing our Celtic Cities in the Climate Emergency
21 October 2021
In the lead up to COP26, Causeway: Ireland Scotland Business Exchange partnered with city chambers from across Ireland and Scotland for the next interactive networking event in its Growing our Celtic Cities in the Climate Emergency series on 21 October 2021.
Hosted by Causeway, in partnership with Cork Chamber, Dublin Chamber, Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce and Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, this online networking event included guest talks from each city, as well as topical breakout networking sessions to allow attendees, from both sides of the Irish Sea, to have the opportunity to connect and chat, and share insights from their city on tackling the climate crisis.
This event was hosted by Causeway's Stuart Turnbull of Jacobs and included guest talks from: James Duggan of Arup spoke on smart buildings and urban development in Cork; Benjamin Bell of Tier Mobility spoke on sustainable transport in Dublin; Chris Adams, The City of Edinburgh Council spoke on 2030 Sustainability Strategy for the City; Roddy Yarr of the University of Strathclyde spoke on the Climate Neutral Innovation Project that will be launched at COP26.

The Impact of Lockdown on Sport and its Future Outlook for Ireland and Scotland

Causeway: Ireland Scotland Business Exchange and Donegal Diaspora were delighted partner on 1 July 2021 to host an online networking event focused on business and sport, and how the sector is planning to spring back and bounce forward as we emerge from lockdown to a ‘new normal’.
This online event had spotlight talks highlighting the Donegal links with Scotland and around the globe, and the growth ambitions of the Donegal Diaspora network in promoting business and trade opportunities in Donegal.
This interactive networking session will be hosted by Causeway Ambassador John McClarey of Business Fives, and will welcome keynote guest speaker, Packie Bonner, former goalkeeper for the Republic of Ireland and Celtic FC, as well as Peter Mossey and Jenn Treacy of Scotland GAA, who shared their experiences of the impact of Covid pandemic on sport, their views and insights on the transferable skills that have been learnt in the last year, and plans looking forward as the sector emerges and recovers.

On 25 February 2021, Causeway: Ireland Scotland Business Exchange hosted a networking event putting the spotlight on entrepreneurs and start-ups from across Ireland and Scotland.
Hosted by the Causeway Young Professionals Committee, this event provided a space for attendees to learn from the insight and experiences of the speakers and provided a platform for start-ups and entrepreneurs to widen their professional networks across Ireland and Scotland by facilitated, breakout networking sessions.

Celebrating Burns and the Ireland-Scotland Relationship Networking Event

On 21 January 2021, Causeway: Ireland Scotland Business Exchange and the Scottish Government Office in Ireland hosted in partnership an online networking event and celebration, as we approached the commemorations for Scotland’s ‘National Bard’, Robert Burns, who Scots around the world pay tribute to on 25 January each year.
Guest speeches on the growing Ireland-Scotland relationship were given from the Chair of Causeway David Greenlees; the Deputy Head of the Scottish Government Office in Ireland Sandy McPhee; and the Vice Consul to the Consulate General of Ireland in Scotland Lisa Marie Joyce.

Digitising the Construction Sector Series Launch

Growing our Cities in the Climate Emergency: Countdown to COP26

Held 24 November 2020, this online event was the the second in a series of Causeway's Growing our Cities in the Climate Emergency events, sponsored by Jacobs and the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation, looking at what businesses can do in the Countdown to #COP26.
Key speakers were Jamie Brogan, Head of Innovation & Skills at the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation and Adam Liddle, Director of Sustainable Growth and Innovation at Jacobs, who discussed from a national and regional level how we can embed carbon impacts into decision making and what commitments can businesses make towards achieving a carbon neutral target.
Exporting and Trading across the Irish Sea

Connecting Young Professionals and Leaders in our Network
On 24 September, Causeway's Young Professional members organised and hosted a career development and networking session, bringing together experience from across Ireland and Scotland, and - as well as offering career advice to recent graduates and young professionals - emphasised the importance of developing a professional network in order to build successful business relationships.
The event was hosted by Causeway Young Professional Members Megan Harkins, Head of Research and Development at mental health start-up Ok Positive and Finn O’Neill, a Trainee Solicitor at international law firm CMS.Speaking at the event were Jane McCulloch, the Consul General of Ireland in Scotland; Brigid Whoriskey, Causeway Director and Executive Coach with Envision; Gillian Nibbo of Star Recruitment; and Causeway Young Professional Member Ailis Watt.

How to Bounce Forward from Covid-19

Following positive feedback after our
Personal Resilience event in May, it was a pleasure to welcome back Causeway member and motivational speaker, Mike Stevenson for this inspiring and uplifting talk.
In this stimulating and engaging talk and colourful presentation, Mike gives a glimpse into what the future might hold and the abundance of spaces that will open up for those who are of a mind to see them.
Mike also draws on his own life of lows and highs, and shares the mental approach he developed more than 50 years ago when he was a rough sleeper in London, and offers optimism on moving forward, working differently, and building something better and stronger.

Preparing Yourself and Your Teams for the 'New Normal'

In this stimulating and fascinating online event held on 16 June, mental health expert and hypnotherapist Miranda Robarts-Arnold, explored the neuroscience of how the brain and body deal with stress and anxiety, to help give an understanding of what you and your workforce may be experiencing returning to work following the Covid-19 lockdown.
In this video, Miranda discusses the neuroscience and explains the diverse chemical reactions in the brain when experiencing contrasting feelings of stress and motivation, and provides tactics and tips to help you establish trust, boost motivation, and productivity in the ‘new normal’.

On 10 June 2020, Causeway hosted an online event, with key speakers from its membership to discuss their respective roles in their organisations and sectors in responding to the Covid-19 crisis.
The key speakers were Consul General of Ireland to Scotland Jane McCulloch; Head of the Technology Enabled Care and Digital Healthcare Innovation at the Scottish Government Dr Margaret Whoriskey MBE; and Martin McBride, International Strategy and Export Development Consultant, with Envision.
This was an interactive event with opportunity for delegates to ask questions, provide their viewpoints and to join in with the discussion.
Growing our Cities in the Climate Emergency Webinar and Discussion

Hosted by Causeway: Ireland Scotland Business Exchange, in partnership with Jacobs and the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation, this webinar and discussion panel was the launch of a series of events planned to explore how the four cities can share experiences on the challenges around addressing the climate crisis, while continuing to grow and prosper, with the ultimate goal of developing action plans and shared solutions.

Let's Talk about Personal Resilience Online Event

On 14 May 2020, Causeway held a webinar on Personal Resilience. This online event covered some practical advice on what you can do (and stop doing) to build your resilience for the future, not just for the next few weeks. It also looked at the role maintaining and nurturing your networks can play in building and maintaining resilience, and also include insights from some of our Causeway members.
This interactive and engaging webinar was co-hosted by Causeway Director and Consultant Executive Coach Brigid Whoriskey and Future Proof Learning senior Consultant David Maltman and also include guest speaker Mike Stevenson from Thinktastic.
